Reduce the chance of being hacked during a video conference!

Do you use Zoom or similar video conference platforms, like Google Hangouts, Microsoft Teams?

You may have read about recent incidents of online harassment occurring on video conferences. As millions of workers turn to collaboration tools to keep in touch with each other during the COVID-19 pandemic, cyber criminals are targeting users of the popular video conferencing tool, Zoom.

Zoom has since made security improvements you can read about on their Zoom blog.

Below are best practices users can do to reduce the chance of being hacked on Zoom or other similar platforms:

  • Train Meeting Hosts
  • Require Passwords to Access Meeting
  • Create a unique meeting number for each conference
  • Don’t publicly post meeting links; share meeting IDs, links and phone numbers directly via email or an internal communication tool
  • Limit Sharing; Use Chat Feature to take questions
  • Know how to remove uninvited guests, and if unwelcome behavior occurs, how to end the meeting immediately for all participants
  • Check attendee lists during the call and verify who is in attendance
  • Immediately report inappropriate behavior to the meeting host
